Zia’s Florentine Tart

Florentine Tart

My mother made this tart for last year at Christmas and we all finished as soon as it landed on our plates. This weekend, I decided to make this again with the help of her recipe.

You need a 30 cm quiche pan. Pre-heat oven @ 180 degrees Celcius.

BASE:

1 cup flour

1 teaspoons castor sugar

¼ teaspoon baking powder

100g butter

Mix all together in the food processor. Beat 1 egg and add. Once everything is mixed, press into a baking tin.

TOPPING:

150g butter

1 teaspoons milk

2 teaspoons vanilla essence

250g flaked almonds

½ cup castor sugar

Put everything into a pot, stir over low heat until golden and when it comes away from the side of the pot. Pour over the uncooked base and smooth it out.

Bake at 180 degrees Celcius for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

Let it cool and serve with ice-cream, or cream 😉
